The initial inspiration came from the shadows that were cast onto grass. Months later, she developed a method that did not create the object she chose onto canvas in an image that was flat. If the object is alive or perishable like humans and fruits, they become a painting of themselves. Her ephemeral painterly style is obvious and the only thing that remains in Alexa Meade's works is a photographic image. Trompe l'oeil is achieved using the two processes of photography and painting. It creates a flattened, two dimensional photograph. Meade sometimes blends her painted characters within the three-dimensional space surrounding the figures. They are able to interact with the world she has created for herself. The boundaries between performance, installation, photography and painting are thus dissolved.
